HIGHLAND CHRISTIAN CHURCH
MESSAGE

Highland Christian Church was organized in 1988 by a group of 55 people who had been meeting together for Bible study. After the signing of the covenant, the first church building was dedicated in March of 1890. The faith of Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) members remained strong, enduring a fire and restoration of the original church building, and the repossession of the building by the bank during the silver panic. Holding strong, this band of Christians continued worshipping together until a new building at 34th and Bryant was completed. The congregation is now in their 3rd building at 35th and Federal Blvd.

In 1987, Foothills Christian Church and Highland Christian Church merged to form one congregation.

The current members give praise to God for the former members who have gone before, working so hard to keep the church viable and alive.

THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH
(DISCIPLES OF CHRIST)
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded on American soil by settlers searching for simplicity and unity as well as freedom and practicality.

SIMPLICITY - The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination is founded on a simple New Testament faith and simplified church structures to meet America's needs.

UNITY - In 1804 Barton W. Stone and many followers had a vision to establish a church where all are unified with "the Body of Christ at large." Today, the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) helps to lead the effort to bring all Christians together through Christ.

FREEDOM and PRACTICALITY - Still today, there are no doctrines or uniform rules stating the requirements of belonging to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.)  In forming the denomination, it was believed that individuals could read and interpret the Bible for themselves. It has always been the Christian Church's (Disciples of Christ) goal to establish a practical, down-to-earth religion which would help followers build faith to help them deal with and understand a hard life.
