OUR MISSION
It
is the Mission of Highland Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to
share the love of Jesus. To all people, we open our arms in love and
extend our hands in service.
With the grace of God, we will
strive to mend the brokenhearted, to nurture and strengthen each
individual in their walk with Jesus Christ, the Lord and Savior.
WHAT DO DISCIPLES BELIEVE?
Like most Christians, Disciples affirm the following:
- Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God.
- Jesus Christ offers saving grace to all.
- All persons are God's children.
Beliefs and practices associated with Disciples include the following:
-
Open Communion. Sharing in the Lord's Supper is at the heart of the
Disciples worship service and is celebrated weekly. All who believe in
Jesus Christ are welcome to participate in communion.
- Freedom
and Diversity. The belief in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior bind
Disciples of Christ members together. However, there are no set
doctrines and each member is encouraged to worship and serve God in
their own way.
- Baptism by Immersion. Baptism by Immersion
mirrors New Testament practice. Because it recalls Jesus' own baptism,
it is powerfully symbolic. Although baptism by immersion is practiced
in the Disciples of Christ Church, other baptism traditions are
honored, recognized and accepted.
- Belief in the Oneness of the
Church. The Disciple of Christ Church works toward uniting all
Christians to be one in Christ and to seek opportunities for common
witness and service.
- The Ministry of Believers. In the
Disciples of Christ Church, both ministers and lay persons lead in
worship, service and spiritual growth.
